Continued. We started at 1 a.m. with flashlights. We were used to eastern black bears but apprehensive about western bears especially in the dark. We got to the summit and tried to have lunch when the biggest groundhog that any of us had ever seen showed up to join us. I was told that he was a marmot. I had never heard of them. We made it off the mountain dry and drove back to our campsite.I've crossed the country by car a few times since, I understand to a degree why flyover (Pittsburgh to Denver) country is called that. The West, of course, is beautiful.
